The Baldwinsville Bees baseball team rebounded from its loss to CNS on Thursday with a victory over Syracuse, 3-0 on Saturday morning.
Colin Ray secured the win for the Bees with a masterful pitching performance, allowing only two hits and no runs over 5 2/3 innings. Alex Curry pitched the last 1 1/3 innings and retired all four batters in order to collect the save.
In the bottom of the third inning, in a scoreless game, senior Josh Leonard looped a single to left field, one of three hits by him on the day, Then, sophomore Jacob Penafeather lifted a fly ball to center field and it drifted beyond the centerfielder for a double. Leonard reached third and advanced home on a throwing error. The Bees held a 1-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the fourth, senior Gavin Miller led off with a single and advanced to second on a walk to Nico Wellman. Reid Rachwal then moved both of the runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt. With one out, Luca Beals bunted and scored Miller with a safety squeeze. Wellman was stranded at third at the end of the inning and the Bees led 2-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Braden Seeber started the inning with a rocket line drive to left, a double that put a runner in scoring position. Evan Kinville pinch ran for Seeber and quickly went home on a ground ball single up the middle by Miller, his second hit of the day. The insurance run increased the lead to 3-0.
That only left Curry to finish up the game in the top of the seventh, putting Syracuse hitters down in order.
With the victory, Baldwinsville's record is 5-1, with a challenge at CBA on Monday on the horizon.
