A potent offense and steady pitching propelled the Bees varsity baseball team over Corning, 10-0, on Wednesday afternoon, at home.
The hitting barrage began quickly, as the Bees struck for seven runs in the first three innings.
After starting pitcher Jack Andres worked through a couple of walks in the first inning, the Bees scored three in the bottom frame.
Zach Bush started with an infield hit and Anthony May reached first on a fielder's choice. Carson Hayes continued his hot hitting with a line-drive double to right center, moving May to third. After Cam Williams walked to load the bases, May scored on a wild pitch, while Hayes and Williams moved up to second and third. Jarrod Williams then singled home two runs, giving the Bees its 3-0 cushion in the first.
In the bottom of the second, Baldwinsville extended its lead. With one out, Matt Mercurio singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. May then reached on an error, which also allowed Mercurio to score. Hayes then singled again, and with two outs, Cam Williams singled to bring home the second run of the inning. B'ville led 5-0.
In the bottom of the third, David Cerqua and Mercurio scored two more runs on errors by Corning. The Bees had an impressive 7-0 lead.
Andres worked his way through six innings, allowing only three hits and no runs, while striking out three and walking three.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Bees' bats exploded again, as May, Hayes, and Cam Williams had consecutive singles, with Hayes' hit scoring May and Hayes scoring on a wild pitch. Alex Robinson then had his third hit of the game, driving home Frank Levanti, who had reached on a fielder's choice. Baldwinsville led 10-0, which would prove to be the final score.
Jake Marshall pitched the seventh inning and after a walk and an error, recorded the last three outs of the game, the last one on a strikeout.
Hayes and Robinson had three hits each in the game, while C. Williams added two hits. Bush, May, J. Williams, and Mercurio each added singles to account for the Bees' 12 hits. May scored three times, while Hayes and Mercurio scored twice.
Andres got the win.
