After being moved to the leadoff spot for the Bees' game against Syracuse on Friday, Frank Levanti made his case to stay there, as he had two hits (including a double), two walks, two RBIs, three stolen bases, and three runs scored. Baldwinsville knocked off Syracuse 10-1 at Van Duyn Field in Syracuse.
The Bees offense exploded for 10 runs on 12 hits.
Baldwinsville started the scoring in the first, as Levanti singled and stole second. After Carson Hayes walked, Cam Williams grounded to short, but while trying to turn a double play, Syracuse threw the ball away at first and Levanti scored on the error.
In the bottom of the second, Syracuse touched starting pitcher Jason Savacool for an unearned run on a Bees' error, but Savacool got out of a bases loaded jam by striking out the last batter. That would be the last run that Syracuse scored.
In the top of the third, B'ville added two more runs as Levanti walked and stole second and third. Hayes walked again before C. Williams stroked a single to left field, driving home Levanti. On the play, the left fielder misplayed the ball, allowing Williams to get to third and Hayes to score. B'ville led 3-1.
In the top of the fourth, the offense really got going. Zach Bush singled, and with one out, Tommy McKee and Matt Mercurio singled. On Mercurio's single, the left fielder made a throwing error to third, which allowed Bush to score and McKee and Mercurio to move up a base. Levanti followed with a double to deep left, bringing home two more runs. Then, Anthony May singled past the third baseman and Levanti scored as the second baseman tried to tag out May who was trying to get to second base, but the second baseman dropped the ball. The Bees took a commanding 7-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Jarrod Williams started the inning with a blast to deep left center, resulting in a double. Alex Robinson drove him in with a double of his own to left. Mercurio followed with a single to left, driving home Robinson. At the end of the inning, B'ville led 9-1.
The Bees would add one more in the top of the seventh, as Anthony Nardelli and Dan Cerqua walked, Savacool singled to right, and Jack Andres grounded into a fielder's choice out at second, but Nardelli scored.
Savacool pitched six innings and yielded only two hits for the game, both of them of the infield variety. He struck out eight and walked four and gave up one unearned run for the game. Nate Johns pitched the seventh inning, and after a single, got the next batter to ground out to him. Mercurio then made a diving catch on the next batter and threw to second to double up the runner on second.
The Bees next play on Saturday, as they travel to Corning for a 1:00 p.m. game. The Bees finish up their regular season next week with a trio of games against Liverpool and a game against Oswego on Senior Day, next Saturday.
