Williams, Savacool Lead Bees Past F-M
4/12/2017by C. Savacool

Junior centerfielder Cameryn Williams and freshman pitcher Jason Savacool helped propel the Bees past F-M, 2-1, on Wednesday, at the Baker varsity field.

The game was nip and tuck the whole way, as both teams struggled to find a consistent offensive attack.

F-M struck first in the top of the sixth, off Savacool, as their leadoff hitter reached base on a hit-by-pitch.  Savacool struck out the next batter, but the F-M runner stole second.  The next batter hit an RBI single to center to make the game 1-0.  It was only the second hit off Savacool, who retired the last two hitters in the frame.

But the Bees responded in the bottom of the sixth.  With one out, Anthony May reached on a walk and stole second base and then moved to third on a wild pitch in the dirt.  Jarrod Williams then walked; Nate Johns pinch ran for Williams and stole second base.

Designated hitter Carson Hayes then grounded out to second, as he drove in May with the tying score.  With a runner on third, Cam Williams singled over the first baseman to drive in Johns from third and the Bees held its first lead of the afternoon, 2-1.

In the top of the seventh, Savacool retired all three batters on two flyouts and a groundball, as the Bees celebrated the win to even their record at 1-1.

Alex Robinson also had a single for the Bees, who struggled offensively.

Savacool finished with a complete game, 2-hitter, finishing with seven strikeouts, two walks, a hit batsman, and one earned run.

The Bees head off to Florida on Thursday to play a few scrimmages and two official games, returning next week.  The Bees next game at home will be against Rome Free Academy next Saturday.
