For four innings, Syracuse ace and MLB prospect Jeff Belge kept the Bees' offense in check. In fact, the Bees only had one hit by David Cerqua up to that point, although they scored one run against him. But, Baldwinsville's hitters made Belge pitch through patient and long at-bats and pushed him to his pitch count, forcing him to leave the game after four innings.
That strategy would have worked fine if the Bees' pitching and fielding had held Syracuse in check, but unfortunately, Syracuse scored six runs in the second inning and added runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, mostly unearned.
The Bees mounted a fierce comeback in the fifth and sixth innings. Zach Bush scored in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Billy Clifford.
In the sixth inning, with one out, Cerqua singled again (one of three hits in the game for him), Frank Levanti walked, Alex Robinson singled in Cerqua, and Tommy McKee doubled in another run. Bush walked and Anthony May doubled to clear the bases. May later scored on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, the six runs scored in the inning still left the Bees one run behind and with a runner on third and one out in the seventh inning, the Bees could not bring the runner home.
The Bees lost 9-8 with Nate Valentine taking the loss for the Bees.
