In an important closing game of the week, the Bees baseball team took down the Auburn Maroons with an 8-6 win on Saturday.

Although Auburn struck first against starting pitcher Cameron Morrissey with one unearned run in the first inning, the Bees responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Zach Bush started the inning with a line drive to left and Anthony May also singled.  After Billy Clifford walked, Alex Robinson grounded to shortstop, but the shortstop tried unsuccessfully to make a play at home.  David Cerqua then drove in two runs on a line drive to left field.

The Bees weren't done.  They tacked on one more run on a RBI double by Bush, which brought home Frank Levanti who had walked earlier and moved to second on a passed ball.

In the third inning, the Bees exploded for three more runs as Robinson reached on an error, Morrissey had a single, and Jarrod Williams, Tommy McKee, and Bush singled home three more runs.

After three scoreless innings, the Maroons finally got to Morrissey for three runs in the fifth inning.  Clifford relieved Morrissey but gave up two runs, as the Bees' lead was shrunk to only one: 7-6.

In the bottom of the sixth, Clifford walked and stole a base and moved to third on a wild pitch.  With no outs, Cerqua put down a perfect safety squeeze to score Clifford from the third to give the Bees the insurance run it needed.

Cody Kaestle entered the game in the seventh inning with his first relief appearance of the season and shut down Auburn 1-2-3 with one strikeout and two flyouts.

The Bees play Syracuse in a three-game series next week, as well as a makeup game with Fayetteville-Manlius at the end of the week.
