Bees Hang On Against Central Square; Chajkowski & Marsell Produce
4/22/2015by C. Savacool

In a game where Bees' hitters struggled to adjust to the slow speed of the Central Square lefty pitcher, Andrew Chajkowski and Dave Marsell paced the Bees' attack and led the team to a 7-6 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bees immediately got on board in the first inning, as Sam Mahar was hit by a pitch and Anthony May walked.  After both players advanced on a double steal, Marsell hit a long sacrifice fly to center to drive home Mahar.  Chajkowski later singled up the middle to bring home May.

Central Square touched Bees' starter, Ben Webb, for a run in the top of the third inning, with a double, a passed ball, and groundout, which brought home the run.

The Bees answered back right away, as they scored two more in the bottom of the third, as Marsell singled, Pat Dubiel walked, Charlie McAllister flew out to right, sending Marsell to third, and Chajkowski hit a double down the left field line to bring home Marsell.  Billy Clifford hit a squibber past the pitcher to bring home the second run of the inning.

The Bees padded the lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth.  Niko Mirizio drove a ball to right field, which the fielder misplayed; Mirizio reached second base.  Mahar had an infield single in the 3-4 hole and May walked to load the bases.  Dubiel and McAllister then had consecutive walks to force home two runs.

After a walk, a groundout, and single, the Bees turned to Frank Mayosky in the fifth inning to relieve Webb, who finished with five strikeouts and one walk in four and one-third innings.  Mayosky immediately got the double play ground ball that they needed, but the runner at second was called safe when Mirizio missed the bag on the double play attempt.  With two outs, the Bees seemed to escape the inning unscathed when Mayosky got the next batter to ground to second base, but a bad throw resulted in one run scoring.  Two consecutive singles brought in the second and third unearned runs of the inning, to narrow the gap to 6-4.

The Bees did not score in the bottom half of the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Mayosky held Central Square to no runs on no hits and in the bottom of the frame, the Bees got one of the runs back to extend the lead to 7-4.  Marsell again roped a single and got to second on a groundout by Dubiel.  McAllister then drove a single to left to bring home Marsell for the Bees' seventh run.

With a 7-4 lead, closer Nick Borek started the seventh inning with a walk and a fielder's choice out.  A double and a passed ball brought home one run and a groundout brought home the second of the inning to narrow the lead to 7-6.  With two outs and no runners on, Borek got the last batter to ground out to Marsell to finish with the save.

In the game, Marsell and Chajkowski finished with two hits a piece.  Chajkowski and McAllister had two RBIs in the game.
