Bees Capitalize on Strong Pitching and Do Enough Offensively to Post Win Against Syracuse
4/14/2015by C. Savacool

The Baldwinsville Bees varsity team has faced some excellent pitching the last two games... and for the second time in two days, the Bees got its own great pitching and enough offensive production to yield a win against the combined Syracuse team and its ace, Jeff Belge, 2-1, on Tuesday.

The Bees scored two runs, one each in the second and third innings.

In the second inning, Andrew Chajkowski worked a walk and Charlie McAllister sacrifice bunted Chajkowski to second.  Chajkowski got to third on a wild pitch and Niko Mirizio worked another walk.  With two outs, Mirizio took off for second and the Syracuse catcher tried to throw him out, but Mirizio was safe, allowing Chajkowski to score the first run.  Advantage, Baldwinsville... with no hits.

In the third inning, Tom Scarfino walked to lead the inning and Sam Mahar bunted for a single.  With runners on first and second, Belge picked off Scarfino.  Then, with two outs, Dave Marsell laced a single into right field, but the ball skipped by the right fielder, allowing Mahar to score from first base.

That was all the Bees would need, as starting pitcher Ben Webb worked five innings, giving up one unearned run in the fourth.  Webb allowed only two hits and struck out four, while walking only one.

Sophomore Frank Mayosky entered the game in the sixth inning and worked two no-hit innings for the save.
