4/6/2015by C. Savacool

The Bees varsity team relied on a powerful offense and solid pitching to win two unofficial games in Florida on Monday.

GAME ONE

In the first game against New York's Massapequa Chiefs, the Bees had 12 hits to overpower their opposition, 8-5.

In the second inning, the visiting Bees got on the board first with a double by Niko Mirizio, a walk by Dan Rabe, and an RBI single by Cameron Morrissey.  Morrissey pitched the first four innings, yielding only 1 run on 2 hits.

After Massapequa tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the second, Baldwinsville jumped out to the lead with a four-run third inning, as Billy Clifford reached on an error, Andrew Chajkowski singled, and Charlie McAllister drove in a run on a single.  Mirizio then followed up with another double, bringing home another run.  The final two runs of the inning came off a two-RBI single by Rabe.

With Keenan Nellis pitching in the fifth inning, the Chiefs came back to tie the game, although the Bees didn't help themselves at the end of the inning with a two-run error.

In the sixth inning, the Bees immediately responded with two more runs on singles by Rabe and Dan Engels and with two outs, Nellis singled up the middle to bring home two runs, furnishing a lead the Bees would not relinquish.

Mirizio collected his third hit of the game in the seventh inning, providing a final run for the Bees.

Nick Borek pitched a scoreless seventh inning, as the Bees ended the game with a "strikeout and throw him out" play, as McAllister gunned down the runner trying to steal on the third strike.

GAME TWO

In the second game, the Bees continued to flex their offensive muscle over the Passaic Valley (NJ) Hornets, winning the game 9-2 on 14 hits.

B'ville started the scoring in the top of the first with consecutive doubles by Andrew Chajkowski and Pat Dubiel, the latter bringing home Chajkowski.  A single by Billy Clifford brought home Dubiel.

After Passaic Valley scored one in the first inning, the Bees came back in the third inning to score four runs on a triple by Dubiel, an RBI single by Dave Marsell, a walk by Clifford, an RBI double by Mirizio, and a two-RBI single by Sam Mahar.

The Bees added one more run in the fifth when the Hornets' pitcher walked in a run.  In the sixth inning, the Bees brough home another run on singles by Marsell and Mirizio, and an RBI-single by Engels.

Passaic Valley scored one run in the sixth inning, but could muster no more.

The Bees finished with fourteen hits, with Marsell pacing the way with three hits.  Dubiel and Mirizio each had two hits.

The Bees' pitching was strong, as Carson Hayes threw four innings of two-hit ball and Ben Webb threw three innings of three-hit ball; each pitcher gave up one run.
